RIAA settles with 12-year-old girl

By John Borland

Sept. 9 — Barely 24 hours after suing alleged file swappers around the United States, the recording industry has settled its first, agreeing to drop its case against a 12-year-old New York girl in exchange for $2,000.

It's one thing to go after adults, but to sue a 12 year old girl for 2K??

I'm not buying a CD again (well, at least not for a long time). If I want a CD I'll give some guy in Manhattan $5 for a burn job.

Fuk that, I know the RIAA has a point ... but wtf? That kid could use that money for college.

Bullshit.

What will change things is if people stop buying CDs from record stores. They are the only thing preventing the industry from doing things like selling single tracks or even full CDs online. Wherehouse went under, Tower isn't far behind, once they clear out these bastions of $18 CDs then the record companies will stop pandering to them and prices for music will start being more in line with reason.
